Abbazia di Novacella St. Magdalener 2023
Founded in 1142, Abbazia di Novacella is one of the world’s oldest continuously operating wineries. Located in Alto Adige’s northern Isarco Valley, the abbey was established by the Augustinian Canons, who cultivated vines to support the monastic community. While the property remains under the stewardship of the church, the wines are now made by a modern team led by acclaimed winemaker Celestino Lucin, blending tradition with innovation.
From vineyards around Bolzano, St. Magdalener is a classic Alto Adige red, made primarily from Schiava with a touch of Lagrein. It’s light in colour, fragrant with red berries and herbs, and bright on the palate with soft tannins and lively acidity. A traditional mountain red—fresh, versatile, and quietly expressive of its place.
