D.S. Bio Rosso del Frusinate IGT “Volumnia” 2020
From the hills of Lazio, bordering Abruzzo, comes this biodynamic red from the exceptionally driven young winemaker Danilo Scenna. His wines are full of character, depth, and energy—just like his story. Putting himself through university and graduate school while working abroad, Danilo returned to buy back parcels of his ancestral family land, which had been divided and sold off through decades of emigration from this remote corner of Lazio to Canada.
Some of his vineyards feature century-old vines trained up fruit trees in the ancient Etruscan system known as maritati (“married”). Even maple trees—grown from seeds smuggled back from Canada in the pockets of returning emigrants—are part of this living heritage. With the help of his agronomist and enologist, Danilo is rebuilding a healthy ecosystem where he, his family, and his beloved horses now thrive.
“Volumnia” is a juicy, fresh red bursting with red berries, plums, and blueberries. It strikes a delicious balance between vibrant acidity, firm yet approachable tannins, and an enveloping softness.
