D.S. Bio Rosso del Frusinate IGT “Volumnia” 2020

$52.90

From the western hills of Lazio bordering on Abruzzo where an exceptionally driven young winegrower named Danilo Scenna producers biodynamic wines of great character, depth and energy.Danilo’s story is as unique and honest as his wines. Putting himself through university and graduate school and working abroad, he set out to purchase back ancestral family land that had been parcelled up through decades of mass emigration from this remote corner of Lazio to Canada.

Some of the vineyards include centuries old vines trained up all manner of fruit trees in the ancient Etruscan system called maritati (‘married’) in Italian. Even maple trees (from seeds smuggled back from Canada in the pockets of returning emigrants)! With the help of his agronomist and enologist, Danilo is recreating a healthy ecosystem where he, his family and his beloved horses are thriving.

This red is bursting with red berry fruit, plums and blueberries. Juicy and fresh, it strikes a delicious balance between a good tannic structure and enveloping softness.
