Girolamo Russo Etna Rosso "a Rina" - ETA October
Some of Sicily’s, and indeed the world’s, most exciting wines are grown on Mt. Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano. This Etna Rosso is from 5 sites ranging from 650 to 800 metres above sea level. The mineral soils, old bush vines and late-ripening indigenous grape varietals yield wines of formidable structure and diversity.
Giuseppe Russo, once a famed classical pianist, is considered one of the pioneers of Etna. He established Girolamo Russo in 2005, and dedicated to the memory of his father Girolamo, the winery is a powerful expression of Giuseppe’s desire to respect and conserve his family’s traditional values, but interpreting those values in a new and personal way, introducing and developing new approaches to winemaking, but remaining in the village of his birth, Passopisciaro – the centre of the recent renaissance in the great red wines of Etna.
The name “A Rina” refers to the sand that rains on the vines of Mt. Etna.
