Valiano Chianti Classico DOCG 2020
Valiano Chianti Classico DOCG comes from organically farmed vineyards in Castelnuovo Berardenga, the southernmost commune of Chianti Classico, where the wines tend to show depth, warmth, and structure. The estate, once owned by former Italian president Giovanni Gronchi in the 1960s, was revitalised by the Piccini family in the mid-1990s. Since then, Valiano has quietly become a respected name in the region, committed to sustainable farming and transparent winemaking.
The wine is made from 95% Sangiovese and 5% Merlot, grown on limestone soils between 200 and 300 metres above sea level. Fermented in stainless steel and aged briefly in large oak casks, it offers clarity and balance rather than excess. Expect lifted notes of violets and red berries, fine tannins, and a clean, well-measured finish.
The 2020 vintage received the prestigious Tre Bicchieri award from Gambero Rosso, a mark of its quality. But more than awards, this is a wine rooted in place and made with skilled hands.
